Recently for my communications class I have been doing something called “genius hour.” It’s when you study an area of interest. I have been studying music’s effect on brain function. I have looked up a lot of information about rap, hip hop, and rock music. I was surprised that rap normally had a negative effect while hip hop boosted people’s emotions.

I walked down the hall not making a sound. I got jostled and bumped by everyone around me. Backpacks knocked me back and forth as I clutched my books tighter to my chest. I looked down and pushed my earbuds farther in trying not to be noticed by anyone near me, hoping...

“This is your captain speaking. Prepare for lift off.”
I leaned back and looked out the window at the airport. I felt the cabin slant and started to gain air pressure little by little. We climbed higher in the sky and I could see the city from up there. I laid back and closed my eyes, drifting off to sleep.

Bullying

Bullying

I heard a story once about a girl who was bullied because of facial scars and deformities. She would always look down on herself for not being beautiful in others’ eyes and never wanted anyone to leave her out. She was picked on but she stayed strong in her faith and was able to stand righteous. She stood up to the bullies and eventually they backed down. Eventually she learned how you are always beautiful in God’s eyes, and how you can always stand tall in the face of the devil. [more]

I jumped two feet in the air as the alarm bell blared. It was 3rd period; Library aid and therefore it was unusual for me to hear an annoying, ear rattling, UNNECESSARILY LOUD, fire bell SHATTERING MY EARDRUMS! I bolted upright to realize that it was the fire alarm. The librarian came out and guided the students in the room who didn’t know where to go; outside and onto the track; our position for fire drills. [more]

Whose Plans?

I ran around the room grabbing at everything that looked interesting. I just drank a full cup of coffee and I could not calm down. I was so energized I put on my running shoes and started a run. I raced up a hill and barreled down the other side at my fastest pace. I loved the feeling of the wind messing up my hair as I ran. As I slowed and turned around I realized how fast I had burned out.
