To someone who is going through hardship or heartache, two of the most comforting words anyone can say is “Me too!”
“Me too” welcomes you into a community. It breathes life back into a sagging soul. It breeds acceptance where feelings of rejection were pronounced. It kicks isolation to the curb. It gives you a hand to hold and a heart to beat with you.
Hi I’m Dr. Michelle Bengtson. I’m the author of the newly released “Hope Prevails: Insights From a Doctor’s Personal Journey Through Depression.” Many people have asked me why I wrote the book.
It’s a difficult story to write when you’re telling your own personal story of a journey through depression. Honestly, it’s not really one that I wanted to share. The enemy would like to keep that story hidden inside because of shame and embarrassment. But secrets only hold their power when they’re kept in the dark. When we tell our story and bring it out into the light that’s when the secret loses its power.
Part of the reason I wrote the book is to let you know that you’re not alone, because I’ve been there. Even as the professional, the doctor with all the alphabet soup after my name. Even I wasn’t immune to depression. I’ve gone through it. But I’m on the other side now.
I want to share with you how I got here, what the journey was like, and how you, too, can get to the other side. I want to dispel some of the lies and myths surrounding depression. And, I want to offer hope. The hope that prevails.
Just hold on a little bit longer, take my hand and walk through the pages of Hope Prevails with me. Learn what I learned. Take the steps that I took. Together, we’ll get to the other side. And, depression can be a distant memory for you as well.
Will you journey with me through the pages of Hope Prevails? Together we’ll get to the other side and then you, too, can help someone else with the comfort that you’ve been given.
“He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us”
(2 Corinthians 1:4 NLT).
