Hope for the Hurting
I was completely stunned the day I was diagnosed with cancer. Have you ever said, “Something’s missing . . . and I’m not sure what? I’m searching for Jesus and desperate to find Him somehow amid all the noise. I feel so alone. As parents, it’s important for us to cover these 8 areas of our children’s lives with prayer. I’ve included Bible verses because God loves when we pray scripture back to Him. As you pray these 8 Simple Prayers and Biblical truths over your children daily, be assured that you are opening up the storehouses of God’s provision over them.
Two of the most comforting sentiments we can hear in the midst of a trial are “You’re not alone…I understand.” When I was in the valley of depression, that’s what I needed to hear but didn’t. The truth is you’re not alone because God has promised to never leave. Read more for 4 scriptures to stand on in the valley of depression.
God gives good gifts. Have you ever thought about the fact that God wants to give you good things? Do you ever question His goodness? Like when your prayer isn’t answered the way you had hoped, or the job didn’t come through that you desired, or when a friend leaves your life? When we first introduced Selah, our four pound Pomeranian to the family, God gave me an analogy of why He sometimes withholds something from me that I want. Something that I think would be good for me. Read more for what I learned.
As a neuropsychologist, one of the greatest challenges I’ve encountered has been teaching the importance of our mindset, and what we spend time focusing on. When we focus on feelings of anxiety or depression, those feelings grow. Focusing on God helps our day seem better, brighter and more encouraged. Read more for the science behind how what you focus on grows and how you can actually put that into practice.
Trials. Stresses. Difficult Times. Where do we turn when life is hard? Jesus told us we would face trials and He offered encouragement so we could maintain our peace. God commands us to come with Him with thanksgiving in every situation we find ourselves in. If there is one thing I’ve learned about God, it’s that He doesn’t command us to do anything that isn’t His best for us. And if cultivating a grateful lifestyle is for our good, just perhaps this will foster our ability to perceive each day as good, even when there are bad moments within each day.
