Have you ever created a bucket list? Perhaps you were inspired by the movie The Bucket List—a tale of two men determined to complete life’s most extraordinary adventures before their time runs out. A bucket list might include grand dreams, like visiting distant lands or skydiving, or simpler goals, like reconnecting with an old friend or learning to bake your grandmother’s favorite recipe.
While it’s fun to dream about what we’ll do someday, the truth is, life often gets in the way. Our “someday” lists gather dust as we focus on daily responsibilities. But did you know that God has His own “someday” list? Unlike ours, His list is full of promises that are guaranteed to come true.
The Bible contains over 7,000 promises from God, each one a reflection of His unchanging character. Numbers 23:19 declares, “God is not human, that he should lie, not a human being, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill?” God’s promises aren’t wishful thinking or uncertain hopes—they’re rock-solid truths we can rely on, even when we don’t see them fulfilled immediately.
God’s Promises Are Certain
One of the most beautiful truths about God is that He never breaks a promise. His faithfulness is woven throughout Scripture, reminding us that what He has spoken will surely come to pass. Isaiah 55:11 tells us, “So is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.”
Yet, while we can trust that God’s promises will come to fruition, the timing is often a mystery. As humans, we’re used to setting deadlines and expecting instant results. But God operates on a different timetable—one that is perfect, even when it doesn’t align with our own.
Jesus Himself reminded His followers of this truth in Acts 1:7: “It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority.” God doesn’t always reveal when or how His promises will be fulfilled, but we can rest in the assurance that they will.
Waiting for the Fulfillment of God’s Promises
Waiting can be hard, especially when we’re clinging to God’s promises in the face of life’s challenges. Whether it’s a promise of peace, provision, or healing, the gap between the promise and its fulfillment can test our faith. But this waiting period isn’t wasted—it’s a time for God to grow our trust in Him and refine our character.
Habakkuk 2:3 encourages us, “For the revelation awaits an appointed time; it speaks of the end and will not prove false. Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay.”
Just as we don’t know when we’ll complete the items on our bucket lists, we don’t know the day or time when God will fulfill His promises. But unlike our human plans, which are uncertain and fragile, God’s promises are guaranteed.
