Hope Prevails! When Life Turns Upside Down
Have you ever gone through a period in your life when things just did seem like normal, but you couldn’t quite put your finger on what was different, what had changed? Have you ever perhaps felt like your life turned upside down but you weren’t quite sure what to do about it or where to turn? Have you ever gone through a difficult time in your life, mentally speaking, and you just weren’t sure how to cope and you longed for someone to walk alongside you and encourage you?
That’s how my friend Trudi felt. Listen as she shares her story. [more]
Depression Feels Like a Broken Heart
Have you ever gone through a situation so painful that you thought you might not recover?
Depression hurts in so many different ways, and the pain and emotional turmoil, to a very large degree, can feel like a broken heart. The scriptures attest to this in the Psalms, where we read, “A happy heart makes the face cheerful, but heartache crushes the spirit” (Proverbs 15:13, NIV).
Don’t Treat Depression with a Band Aid
“No one understands.”
“I’m all alone.”
“I can’t risk sharing my pain with anyone.”
Have you ever had thoughts like those before? I have. Can I tell you a secret? Those aren’t your thoughts. Those are thoughts whispered to you by an enemy who seeks to steal from you, kill you, and destroy your very being. He is a liar and he hates you. He only wants to hurt you and if he can do it by lying to you and convincing you that you are alone and that no one understands you and your pain, then he will. [more]
Hope Prevails! Gratitude Over Grumbling
Life has been extremely stressful lately, throwing punches from every direction. It has seemed that every time I’ve managed to duck and roll, as soon as I turned, another punch came from another turn leaving me physically spent and emotionally weary. When life gets that way, I know that I must choose to rest: both physically and on God. [more]
Hope Prevails! Help When Life Hits Hard
“It’s a little like being blind….it’s hard to relate and understand what it’s like if you haven’t ever experienced it,” relayed the wife of one of my male patients who suffered from depression.
So many friends and family members relay the same sentiment: they want to help but it’s hard for them to understand what it’s like to suffer from depression since they themselves have never suffered. And yet, what an individual suffering from depression needs to know is that they aren’t alone and someone does care. [more]
Hope Prevails! The Beginning of Freedom
Have you ever been lied to? Have you ever believed a lie for so long that when you heard the truth, it was hard to change perspective and actually believe the truth? Or have you ever been in a situation where you heard two different stories and you just weren’t sure which version to believe?
Hope Prevails! Everyone Needs Hope
In a world where terrorism is on the rise, economies are less stable, divorce is rampant, and more diseases are being discovered but fewer are being cured, everyone needs hope. We long to know that everything will be okay. We desire to know more than anything that WE will be okay. [more]
Bound No More
In my professional practice, I see so many individuals who are bound by the chains of hurt of past offenses that has turned to bitterness, resentment and unforgiveness. The wounds have dug deep and infected their heart. And many have deep-seated hurts over things they themselves have done and find it difficult to forgive themselves. [more]
