As one year ends and another begins, many people reflect on how to start the new year with hope. New Year’s resolutions often focus on what people want to change like weight loss, productivity, or financial goals, but they rarely lead to lasting change. What if, instead of resolutions that fade by February, we chose faith-filled biblical commitments rooted in God’s truth that could truly transform our lives?
The words we speak to and over ourselves matter; the promises we make to ourselves matter. The commitments we make shape our hearts, our faith, and our impact on the world.
This year, instead of striving in our own strength, let’s choose biblical commitments that anchor us in hope, peace, and purpose as we trust God to guide and refine us.
20 Faith-Filled Biblical Commitments to Start the New Year with Hope
Here are 20 faith-filled commitments to embrace this year so you can start the new year with hope.
- I will remember that I serve God, not man. People’s opinions change like the wind, but God’s truth remains. I won’t live for the approval of others; I will seek to please the One who calls me His own (Galatians 1:10).
- I will focus on God’s calling for my life, not just a career. My identity isn’t in a job title or paycheck. I will seek His will and trust that my purpose extends far beyond my profession (Ephesians 2:10).
- I will look forward, not backward. The enemy loves to keep us trapped in the past, especially with guilt, shame, and regret, but God calls us to press on (Philippians 3:13-14). I will focus on the future He has planned for me.
- I will choose peace over worry, fear, and anxiety. Fear doesn’t come from God (2 Timothy 1:7). When anxious thoughts arise, I will turn to His promises and rest in His peace.
- I will cultivate gratitude, even in hard seasons. I will thank God for the little joys in life and trust that He is using my past pain for His glory (1 Thessalonians 5:18).
- I will refuse to compare my journey to someone else’s. Comparison steals joy and distracts from God’s unique plan for my life. I will celebrate others’ victories while staying faithful to my path (Galatians 6:4-5).
- I will look for ways to offer God’s love to others. The world is full of hurting people. I will seek to be His hands and feet, offering hope, healing, and encouragement (Matthew 25:40).
- I will find joy in the journey, not just the destination. God is present in every step, not just in the finish line. I will embrace each moment, trusting that He is at work in all things (Ecclesiastes 3:11).
- I will prioritize presence over perfection. Perfection is an illusion, but presence is a gift. I will be fully engaged with God and my loved ones, letting go of impossible standards (Psalm 46:10).
- I will not let fear or insecurity limit my future. Fear tries to keep me small, but God calls me to step out in faith (Isaiah 41:10). I will trust His strength over my own doubts.
- I will not be defined by rejection, criticism, or others’ opinions. The world may overlook, dismiss, or misunderstand me, but my worth is secure in Christ. I am chosen, loved, and valued by Him (1 Peter 2:9).
- I will not pick up offense but will choose grace. Offense breeds bitterness, but grace brings freedom. I will separate people from their actions and offer forgiveness, mercy, and love (Colossians 3:13).
- I will not waste time trying to prove my worth to the wrong people. I don’t need to strive for validation from those who don’t see my God-given value. I will rest in the truth that I am already accepted in Christ (Romans 8:31).
- I will take risks and be courageously bold for God. Obedience often requires stepping outside my comfort zone. I will trust that He equips me for what He calls me to do (Joshua 1:9).
- I will allow God to refine me like precious gold. Sanctification isn’t easy, but I want to grow. I will embrace His refining work, knowing He is making me more like Him (Malachi 3:3).
- I will trust God’s timing, even when waiting is hard. Delays don’t mean denial. I will trust that His timing is perfect and that He is working behind the scenes (Ecclesiastes 3:1).
- I will speak life over myself and others. Words have power. I will choose to build up rather than tear down, speaking truth and encouragement over myself and those around me (Proverbs 18:21).
- I will seek God first in every decision. Instead of leaning on my own understanding, I will bring every choice before the Lord, trusting Him to guide my steps (Proverbs 3:5-6).
- I will surrender control and trust that God’s plan is better than mine. I don’t have to have it all figured out. I will lay down my need for control and trust that He is leading me toward good (Jeremiah 29:11).
- I will embrace hope, no matter what this year brings. No matter what challenges arise, I will anchor my hope in Christ. He is my constant, my provider, and my peace (Romans 15:13).
