“Oh my gosh!!! I can’t believe Aaron broke up with Ashley!!! They were the cutest couple ever!!!” Ugh. Fine. I listened to my friend lament, “Now I’ll just have to go to prom alone. I need the PERFECT outfit to win as prom queen. I need high heels, a cute dress, and an ADORABLE purse.”
When we crave popularity in school or anywhere else we lose popularity with God. As you run around judging clothes and screeching at passerby, you get slowly farther away from God. You run away from him, trying to get back through an originally appealing route, although past the entrance it can be a forest of vines and snakes unwilling to help you. God can help you get out even if it costs popularity at school.
When I encounter “popular people,” so many appear insecure. I can’t help but think how sad it is that they can’t find the beauty inside themselves for it doesn’t matter what others think but rather what God thinks of them. Did He not make you? Did He not create you in your mother’s womb? I find very few popular people are willing to say something nice without being sarcastic or snarky. The good thing is that it doesn’t matter what they think, for in God’s eyes you are perfect. God can pave the road for you to get to him whether you are “popular” or not.
Romans 12:2 – “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” — Don’t let anyone say who you are or what you should do but rather let God tell you who you are for he made you.
