There’s a unique heartache in praying for someone (even if that someone is yourself) through a messy, complicated situation and not seeing the answers you long for. Maybe you’ve poured your heart out to God, pleading for a breakthrough, only to feel like your prayers hit a wall. Maybe you’ve wept for someone you love, asking God to intervene, yet nothing seems to change.
If you’ve been there—or if you’re there now— you know how hard pressing through unanswered prayers can be. Can I speak hope into your heart today?
Friend, I know how discouraging unanswered prayers can feel. It’s easy to start questioning if God hears you or if your prayers even matter. But let me assure you: He hears you. He loves you. And He is with you, even in this hard season.
3 Truths to Help You Press through Unanswered Prayers
When it feels like nothing is happening, here are three truths to help you press through unanswered prayers:
1. Know with Confidence God Hears Your Prayers
It’s tempting to believe the silence means God isn’t listening, but Scripture assures us otherwise:
“This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us” (1 John 5:14).
God hears every cry of your heart, even the ones you can’t put into words. The Psalms remind us that He bottles up our tears (Psalm 56:8) and inclines His ear to our prayers (Psalm 116:2).
Silence doesn’t mean absence. God’s ways and timing are higher than ours (Isaiah 55:8-9). Sometimes His answers are delayed, not denied. Sometimes the answers come in ways we don’t expect. But rest assured, your prayers are not in vain.
When doubt creeps in, anchor your heart in this truth: God’s love for you is steadfast. Keep coming to Him with confidence, trusting that He hears every word, even when you can’t yet see the outcome.

2. Trust That Prayer Makes a Difference, Even When You Don’t See the Difference
The enemy loves to whisper lies when answers don’t come quickly: “Why bother praying? It’s not working.”
But don’t buy into that lie. Prayer is powerful because it connects us to the One who holds all power.
“The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective” (James 5:16b).
You may not see immediate results, but your prayers are making an impact—both in the spiritual realm and in your heart. Prayer invites God’s presence into messy situations, shift the atmosphere, and align your heart with His will.
When you pray, you’re standing in the gap for someone, fighting battles they may not even realize they’re facing. You’re inviting God’s peace, protection, and provision into their life. And even if you can’t see the difference right now, trust that God is moving in ways you can’t yet perceive.
Hold onto this hope: Prayer plants seeds that may take time to grow, but they will bear fruit in God’s perfect timing.
3. Tell Fear It Has No Place in This Conversation
Fear loves to creep in when we’re praying for someone we love. What if nothing changes? What if it gets worse? What if God doesn’t come through?
But fear doesn’t belong in the heart of a child of God. Scripture says:
“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind” (2 Timothy 1:7).
When fear tries to steal your peace, remind yourself of who God is. He is good. He is faithful. And He is more than able to handle the situation you’re lifting up to Him.
Fear focuses on the “what-ifs.” Faith focuses on the truth: God is in control. He is with you, and He will never leave you or forsake you.
Worry, fear, or anxiety are NOT your portion; God’s peace is. So, when fear whispers its lies, respond with truth. Say, “Fear, you have no place here. My God is bigger than this situation, and I trust Him completely.”

He Hears You…He Loves You…He Is With You
Sweet friend, I know the waiting is hard. I know it can feel discouraging to keep praying when the answers don’t come. But don’t give up. Keep pressing in, trusting that God is working even when you can’t see it.
In Daniel 2, we read in verses 2-3 that Daniel prayed for three weeks without answer, but verses 10-14 reveal that God heard those prayers, but spiritual forces of darkness were opposing an answer until Michael intervened.
Daniel 2:12-13 ““Do not be afraid, Daniel,” he said, “for from the first day that you purposed to understand and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard, and I have come in response to them. However, the prince of the kingdom of Persia opposed me for twenty-one days. Then Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, for I had been left there with the kings of Persia.”
We can’t see what is coming against us, but we can be assured that God hears every prayer you pray. He loves you more than you can imagine. And He is with you in the waiting, holding you close and strengthening your heart.
So, keep praying. Keep believing. Keep trusting the One who is always faithful.
Your prayers matter. They are powerful. And they are making a difference, even now.
I’m praying for you today—that God would infuse your heart with hope, surround you with His peace, and remind you of His unfailing love.
Let’s keep lifting up those messy, complicated situations to Him, knowing that He is able to do immeasurably more than we can ask or imagine (Ephesians 3:20).
Because He hears you. He loves you. And He is with you. Always.

From 1995-2015 I prayed for deliverance from the disease of treatment resistant major depression, which ended my teaching career at age 45 and rendered me home bound. Constant searching for medical answers and healing consumed my daily life. By 2015 I was hospitalised and was headed toward hospice. Finally, ECT treatments were undertaken, and God totally restored my life. I have lived with total healing for 10 years now. God never gave up on me, Praise His Holy name.
So beautifully spoken Michelle. I know he hears me.
Thanks so much for sharing with Sweet Tea & Friends this month sweet friend

Paula,
Isn’t that an encouragement to know that God bends his ear to hear us? To me, that says we are so important to Him that He doesn’t want to miss anything we have to say to Him!
With Hope,
Michelle
Praying for freedom from the Obsessive Compulsive Disorder that controls my every move. Praying to be set free from the lies of the devil that trap me in a mire of mental illness, keeping me pressed under idolatry & unable to fully serve my Lord & Saviour, Jesus Christ.
Susan, I’m in agreement with your prayer. I’ve worked with thousands over the past three decades dealing with similar issues. I wonder if you might find my book “Breaking Anxiety’s Grip: How to Reclaim the Peace God Promises” helpful in your healing journey.

Thank you for your kind reply. Btw, I’ve tried OCD therapy w/ little benefit. One NP suggested that the reason the OCD treatment didn’t work is bc it did not address the underlying childhood trauma. I was severely sexually abused by multiple people in childhood, then raped yet again by a guy I was dating in college. I figure that’s the root of the problem. Like you, I’m in Texas. If you could recommend a therapist anywhere in Tx who specializes in sexual abuse, I’d be forever grateful. Haven’t been able to find a trauma-informed therapist who could help a severe case like me. If you cannot give me a name, then please give my email address to them & ask that they contact me. I’m desperate, depressed & feeling very hopeless.
I appreciate you suggesting the book. A friend recently gave me a book to read, telling me that the Holy Spirit led her to give it to me. I’d like to read that one first. Please tell me, though, is your book for folks w/ moderate anxiety or for someone (like me) who has severe mental illness?
I’m exceedingly grateful for your personal reply! May God bless you & your work!!
Susan,
It’s so hard for me to recommend specific clinicians because I’m not actually witness to what they do in their counseling offices. I never want to mislead anyone, and my integrity is very important, so unless I know a clinician very well, I won’t make specific recommendations. If you trust me enough to ask the question, then I want to be sure I can be trusted in who I recommend.
The good thing about my book is that it can be helpful for managing all levels of anxiety. I know it feels hopeless, but it never truly is as long as God is on His throne. Praying you sense His presence is greater measure and experience His healing tough in ways you couldn’t imagine.
Hope Prevails,
Dr. Michelle
Thank you very much! I greatly appreciate your time to make a personal reply!!!
