“You know the rule; you do dishes after dinner, it’s always been that way,” I heard as I sulked to the sink. I grabbed a plate and started washing it before putting it in the dishwasher to clean off what I didn’t get. I began to wonder why it’s always the same cycle every day, again and again. Why we never, shake it up a bit.
So often I hear, “Did you hear? ___ got a new office job.”
Whenever we hear “office job” it’s tempting to think, “Oh, the same stuff every day,” and while we don’t always recognize it, almost all of us do the same thing every day whether it be writing up a report for something or even going to school. So many lives revolve around a schedule they or an authority figure make for them. It is rare that anyone is able to get a job making music for God. With a job like that, we are able to throw away the standard we have become accustomed to and go by what God planned for us. What if, every day, each one of us did a random act of kindness to stir up someone’s bland schedule (along with ours).
We have become used to the same thing every day, never really making a large dent for God. So what if, instead of having a bland schedule we always shook it up? What if we gave that homeless man a sandwich and water every once and awhile? Or payed an extra tip or paid for someone’s groceries or meal?
Something that seems to be missing is the outstanding work of all of us. Maybe instead of hearing about a robbery, we could hear about another person getting a kindness award for work in their community.

Yes, shake things up a bit. Trying a new volunteer opportunity can be a wonderful blessing to you and to those you help. 🙂 God has the most amazing ways we can show His love.
Great insight Bryce.
Thinking of others rather than self would make a drastic difference in our lives. Sending a text, a card, or even a phone call can make all the difference in the life of someone alone.
