In my recent Dear Mom post, I shared how my son challenged me to write a letter to my now deceased mother, and to God, sharing the thoughts, sentiments, and feelings I would share if she were still here for Mother’s Day. Through the simple letter I wrote to my mom, I found healing and hope through the transformative power of God’s love.
When someone is depressed, they have a choice to make: to either let depression define them or to desire joy bad enough to seek after it with obedience and sacrifice. Jesus offered us the same joy he had; the fullest possible joy. This journey from depression into joy can be very hard, but if we want joy bad enough, we will seek after it. God commands us to come with Him with thanksgiving in every situation we find ourselves in. If there is one thing I’ve learned about God, it’s that He doesn’t command us to do anything that isn’t His best for us. And if cultivating a grateful lifestyle is for our good, just perhaps this will foster our ability to perceive each day as good, even when there are bad moments within each day.
