On my early morning walk, feeling the weight of the world on my shoulders, I looked up through a small clearing in the trees. In one quick glance, I noted the sun, two airplanes traveling in different directions, an eagle soaring above the treetops, and a common sparrow.
Trusting God for the Big Things
I never question whether or not the sun will rise–I just look forward to basking in its warmth.
When I fly, I sit back in my too-crowded seat and busy myself reading a book or writing my own.
I never worry about how the pilot will get me to my destination, I just trust that he will.
I never get fearful those birds will drop from the sky (just maybe WHAT they will drop).
To my meek human mind, I don’t know how all those things defy gravity. I just trust God is going to keep them there. And I trust Him for a host of other things too: like keeping the earth spinning in orbit, keeping the sharks and whales in the sea and off the land, that summer’s heat will end and fall will come, etc.
Trusting God for the Little Things
If we are willing and able to trust God with such big things, why wouldn’t we trust Him with the aspects of our lives that aren’t as spectacular? The washing machine repair, a misunderstanding with a spouse, a college acceptance, or enough funds at the end of the month to pay the bills?
I’ve often said, “God not only owns the cattle on a thousand hills, He owns all the hills.” His resources are unlimited, His love is unfailing, His promises are true, and His plans are always good. He is trustworthy.
“You can be sure that God will take care of everything you need, his generosity exceeding even yours in the glory that pours from Jesus”
(Philippians 4:19 MSG).
What do you need to trust God for today?

Hope Prevails: Insights From a Doctor’s Personal Journey Through Depression and the companion Hope Prevails Bible Study help the reader understand how depression comes to be, recover their joy, reclaim their peace, and re-establish their true identity, while knowing their worth, remembering their secure destiny, and being confident that nothing separates them from God’s love.
“Dr. Michelle Bengtson has written the Hope Prevails Bible Study not only from a neuropsychologist’s point of view but also from a woman’s heart who has personally walked out the dark valley of depression by trusting God even when He seemed far away.
As a Pastor’s wife and mentor I am thrilled for this material to be available to use as a guide to help others who find themselves on the same journey that Dr. Bengtson writes of. This study will not only benefit those who are going through depression but also those who are walking alongside those who are personally experiencing depression.
Every home around the world is touched in some way by anxiety and depression. The information and insight contained in this Bible study is material that God can use to bring deliverance and restoration.”

Prayers Not Answered As Expected? Trust God’s Character
Thank you Michelle, this helps me.
Oh my, why do we stress over the little things while sitting back and totally trusting that you will take care of the big things? It makes no sense and yet I have been guilty of not trusting Father will take care of a water leak that can’t be found or a car that isn’t running right, makes a noise you can’t distinguish. He loves me, He loves us and He has promised that if we cast our cares upon Him, He will care for us. Oh Michelle, this is so good and hits me hard. There’s a song I love to hear and part of it says, ‘I will trust, I will trust in You’. Oh Lord please help me to trust You in every aspect of my life, the big and the small things, needs, hopes and dreams. Thank you Michelle for sharing this! As always I needed to hear it!! Love and appreciate you so much!
Great comment! We all need to trust God more, that’s for sure.
I just want to add one little clarification that may make a big difference to some readers in response to something you said “He has promised that if we cast our cares upon Him, He will care for us.”
I may be misinterpreting your intended meaning, so forgive me if that’s the case, but I wouldn’t personally look at that particular verse you referenced, which I believe to be 1 Peter 5:7, as meaning that His care for us is conditional on us casting our care on Him, if that’s what you meant by “if” in that sentence.
Rather, the verse, in the NKJV at least, says, “casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.” “For” can be translated “causatively: because,” but not “if,” which simply means that the even better news of God’s care for us is that it’s unconditional.
Even the prayers we forget to pray are already taken care of. So no worries. Don’t think if you forget to send Him the order that He won’t deliver it lol if that makes sense.
It seems like every week in at least one or two blog link ups I’m following you. I always enjoy your posts.
So good! And straight to the point, I like that!
Trust the One who’s always trustworthy. He’s kind to us and takes care of us even though we don’t deserve it, so we can stop striving and rest more in Him! 🙂
I’ve often wondered that myself. It does seem easier to trust God with the big things but then feel like I’m the only one watching over the little things. So grateful that in reality God takes care of it all!
I struggle to trust God with the little things because I forge forward in control with an attitude of “I can do this.” Then I stop and sometime look back and say, “Hey, God is this good.” But lets be honest I am already moving forward so it is doubtful to change things up. However, with the BIG things I know I need his help. When things are beyond me I want and desire to put my full trust in him.
However, I am learning we do need to trust God in all things, even the little things. I am a work in progress.
