Dear Mom,

In a day and age when social media makes comparison all too tempting and easy, all the reasons you are a great mom may not be the first thoughts that come to your mind.

We can be prone to listing our faults faster and longer than we can fill a grocery list on a holiday weekend. But those messages you tell yourself about how inadequate you are, and how you fear the mistakes you have made will scar your precious children for life are lies from the enemy of your soul. We’ve all been there. We’ve all fallen prey to the lying whispers of our enemy.

God bestowed upon you the gift of mothering your particular children because you were the best one to steward, guide, and love them. God knew you would be an amazing mom! That’s why He picked you.

20 Reasons You are a GREAT Mom

As Mother’s Day approaches, I want to remind you of 20 of the ways you have been a GREAT Mom:

1. You rocked, and rocked, and rocked some more when colic was a nightly occurrence.

2. You kiss away boo-boos better than anyone else.

3. You kept your cool no matter how many times they asked “Why?”

4. You held them tight and distracted them during every immunization, and secretly cried wishing you could take their pain away.

5. You saved every baby tooth and lock of hair, recognizing it signaled passage of time out of an era you could never have back again.

6. You sang them songs, substituting their name, as if you had written them just for them.

7. You continued to sew up Mr. Teddy Bear as often as he needed it until they no longer needed him.

8. You attended every extracurricular event you could and cheered loud enough for them to know you were there.

9. You remember who likes what condiments on their hamburgers and hotdogs.

10. You hugged and kissed and thanked them every time they brought home a homemade Mother’s Day gift from school, even when what you wanted was an extra hour or two of sleep.

11. You let Santa, the Easter Bunny, and the tooth fairy take credit for the best gifts.

12. You chauffeured and taxied as if you had nothing else pressing on your schedule.

13. You ensured that the new glasses just added to their cool factor.

14. You magically made breakfast show up at dinner, even when there hadn’t been time to go to the grocery store.

15. Parents of peers reported to you how polite and well-mannered your kids were.

16. You smiled and winked instead of hugging and saying hello when they walked past you in the mall looking cool with their friends.

17. You’ve extended forgiveness every time they asked and often when they didn’t, so they would learn how to forgive others.

18. You showed them what mercy, grace, and forgiveness looked like when shame, bitterness, and resentment were what the world would teach.

19. You prayed for them when they needed guidance, direction, and comfort.

20. And most importantly, you raised them in the way they should go, so that when they are old, they will not depart from it.

A reminder of 20 of the reasons you are a great mom and the special role you play in life. #mothers #MothersDay #encouragement

Motherhood doesn’t come with an instruction book when we receive our precious cargo. But God has plenty to say about you, and He chose you for such a time as this. Rest in the knowledge that your child is even more important to God. God calls you beautiful and He delights over both of you with singing. Well done, Mom! You are amazing!

I’d love to hear what other ways you know you have been a good mom in the comments below!

Motherhood is one of the hardest jobs there is.

A prayer for mothers and the special role they play.

May I Pray For You?
Dear Heavenly Father,
I thank you for the special role mothers play in the lives of others. I thank you that you have given women the ability to birth new life, and then to steward it in your ways and by your will. Motherhood is one of the hardest jobs there is, yet you give that to us to steward and enjoy. I pray for each mother reading this now, whether it be through birth, adoption, or spiritually, that you would show them how much you delight in them and are pleased with them. I thank you that you continue to work in us to refine us and help us become more like you. And I thank you that even as much as we care about our children, we can rest in the knowledge that you care about them even more. You are a good, good Father. Teach us to be good, good mothers. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

A prayer you and the special role you play as a mom! #mothers #MothersDay #prayer
