Every day, our minds are bombarded with tens of thousands of thoughts. Do those thoughts agree with what God says in the Bible? Or are they lies from the enemy? God commands us to take our thoughts captive and He gave us the Bible as our best weapon to defeat the enemy. These eleven scriptures that fight the enemy’s lies will help you win in your thought life as you take your thoughts captive.
~~~
I jolted upright from a deep sleep to the sound of the phone breaking my slumber in the middle of the night.
“This is the alarm company. We’ve registered a forced entry and motion in the front room. We’ve dispatched the police.”
In a split second, everything you thought was safe and secure became vulnerable and alarming.
A fraction of a second is all it takes for your life to turn upside down.
Interestingly, a fraction of a second is not only how long it can take for an intruder to threaten your physical safety, but your mental and emotional safety as well.
We are commanded, “We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.” (2 Corinthians 10:5)
The enemy’s lies
We have between 50-70,000 thoughts each day. Yet God commands us to take EVERY thought captive. This means we have to pay attention to what we are thinking and determine if those thoughts agree with what God tells us in His word, or if they are lies from the pit of hell. That’s a lot of work!
It only takes a fraction of a second for the enemy to whisper lies to you:
You’re worthless.
You’re not important.
You’re just a victim.
Nobody likes you.
You’re all alone.
You are ugly.
You are a failure.
You are rejected.
We go to great lengths to protect our homes and protect our belongings. We would never knowingly invite a thief into our home, so why would we allow thoughts that steal our joy and peace of mind to make themselves at home in our mind?
Scripture says we must be sober and vigilant. “Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour” (1 Peter 5:8 NIV), or other translations say, “watch out” or “be watchful.”
We wouldn’t wait to arm ourselves and get protected until after a thief comes into our home, so we shouldn’t wait to become armed against the enemy until after he attacks our mind either. Scripture says, “And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free” (John 8:32). It’s imperative that we learn God’s word, get it down deep inside us, and use it as our weapon against the enemy.
“Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God” (Ephesians 6:13-17).
11 Bible Verses to use as a weapon against the enemy
1. Know what God’s word says, so that when the enemy of your soul tells you, “You are weak!” You can fight back with the truth that says, “No! According to Isaiah 40:31, in Him, I am strong.”
2. When the enemy suggests, “You are a failure!” Refute him with the truth that says, “No! According to Romans 8:37, I am more than a conqueror!”
3. When the enemy tells you, “You are rejected!” You can fight back with the truth that says, “No! According to Ephesians 1:6, in Jesus I am accepted.”
4. When the enemy suggests that, “You are not important!” You can refute him with the truth that says, “No! According to Deuteronomy 7:6, I am God’s treasured possession!”
5. When the enemy tries to convince you that, “Nobody likes you.” You can fight back with the truth that says, “No! According to Psalm 17, I am the apple of God’s eye.”
6. When the enemy tells you that, “You are a victim!” You can fight back with the truth that says, “No! According to 1 Corinthians 15:57, in Christ, I am victorious.”
7. Next time the enemy tells you that, “You are all alone!” You can refute his lies with the truth that says, “No! According to Joshua 1:5, I am never alone.”
8. When the enemy tries to convince you that, “You are ugly!” You can fight back with the truth that says, “No! According to Psalm 45:11, God says I am beautiful.”
9. When the enemy tells you that, “You are rejected.” You refute him with the truth that says, “No! According to 1 John 3:1, God loves me so much He adopted me as His child.”
10. When the enemy tries to discourage you by telling you that “You will never be healed!” You can fight back with the truth that says, “No! According to Isaiah 53:5, by His stripes I am healed.”
11. When the enemy tries to convince you that “You are worthless and unworthy!” You can fight back with the truth that says, “No! According to John 3:16, Jesus declared me worthy!”
Our minds are definitely where the battles take place. Thanks for the powerful Scriptures.
That’s for sure, Donna! So very thankful He gives us everything we need to fight the battle! #HopePrevails!
Thanks dr B. After the death of my son at only 23 years, the devil wanted to convince me that I would never overcome my sorrow and would fall into depression. Jesus gave me John 15:11- That He will place His joy in my heart and that my joy will be complete. Also that He would “turn my mourning into dancing” (Ps. 30:11). That was the truth!
Oh Elma, I’m so glad you relied on the truth of God’s word to fight back. The enemy doesn’t play fair, but we have the victory!
