Do you ever feel unlovable, questioning if you are loved beyond measure? Like you’re too broken, too flawed, or too insignificant to deserve love—especially God’s love? Maybe you’ve heard the truth that ‘God is love’ (1 John 4:8), but deep down, it’s hard to believe the unfailing love of God applies to you. If that’s where you are, I want you to know you’re not alone. I’ve been there too. But here’s the good news: God’s love for you is not based on how you feel about yourself. His love is unchanging, unwavering, and completely independent of anything you’ve done—or failed to do.

In a recent episode of Your Hope-Filled Perspective podcast, I had the opportunity to talk with my friend, Rachael Adams, author of Everyday Prayers for Love: Learning to Love God, Others, and Even Yourself. If you missed that episode, you can listen here [How to Love God, Yourself, and Others: Living Out God’s Love in Everyday Life – Episode 305]. But before we can learn to more fully love God, love others, and even love ourselves, we have to accept and receive God’s love for us.

Together, we’ll explore what Scripture says about God’s love and how we can embrace the truth that we are already dearly loved, even when our hearts struggle to believe it.

God’s Love is Unconditional

One of the most beautiful aspects of God’s love is that it’s not earned. We live in a world that often ties love to performance. We’re loved when we succeed, meet expectations, or make others happy. But God’s love doesn’t work that way.

Romans 5:8 reminds us, “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Did you catch that? God didn’t wait for us to clean up our act or get everything right. While we were still sinners, He sent His Son to die for us.

God’s love isn’t based on your behavior, your past, or your ability to be perfect. It’s rooted in His very nature. 1 John 4:16 says, “And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love.” Love isn’t just something God does—it’s who He is.

You Are Known and Still Loved

One of the lies we often believe is that if someone truly knew us—all our flaws, fears, and failures—they wouldn’t love us. But God knows you fully, and He still loves you completely.

Psalm 139:1-4 declares, “You have searched me, Lord, and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways. Before a word is on my tongue you, Lord, know it completely.”

God knows everything about you, even the things you try to hide. And still, His love for you doesn’t waver. He sees you through the lens of grace, not judgment.

No matter what you've been through, God’s love never runs out. His kindness is unshakable, His love is unchanging, and He calls you His own. If you need a reminder of how deeply loved you are, this is it. Read more to learn how to accept and embrace God’s love.

God’s Love is Personal – He Loves You Beyond Measure

Sometimes it’s easy to think of God’s love as a broad, general concept. But His love for you is deeply personal. He created you with intention and care.

Jeremiah 31:3 reveals, “I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.” Think about that for a moment. The Creator of the universe loves you with an everlasting love—one that never runs out, fades, or grows tired.

Jesus also emphasized the personal nature of God’s love when He said, “Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered” (Luke 12:7). You matter to Him in ways you can’t fully comprehend.

His love is not distant or conditional—He loves you beyond measure, with an everlasting love that never fades.

Learning to Accept the Unfailing Love of God

Even when we know these truths intellectually, it can still be hard to accept and receive the unfailing love of God. Maybe you’ve been hurt by others who claimed to love you, or perhaps you struggle with feelings of unworthiness. Here are a few steps to help you embrace His love more fully:

  1. Meditate on God’s Word. Scripture is filled with reminders of God’s love. Spend time reading and reflecting on verses like John 3:16, Ephesians 3:17-19, and Zephaniah 3:17. Let His promises sink into your heart.
  2. Pray Honestly. Tell God how you feel. If you’re struggling to believe He loves you, say so. Ask Him to help you see yourself through His eyes and for Him to reveal the depths of His love for you.
  3. Replace Lies with Truth. When the enemy whispers that you’re unlovable or unworthy, combat those lies with the truth of God’s Word. Remember that nothing can separate you from His love (Romans 8:38-39).
  4. Accept Grace. God’s love isn’t something you have to earn. It’s a gift of grace. Ephesians 2:8-9 reminds us, “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.”
  5. Rest in His Presence. Spend time with God in worship, prayer, and quiet reflection. As you draw near to Him, you’ll begin to experience His love in deeper ways.

When doubts creep in and you feel unworthy, God’s love remains constant. No lie, failure, or fear can separate you from Him. His love is unshakable, and His promises stand firm. Read more to learn how to accept and embrace God’s love.

You Are Worthy of God’s Unfailing Love

You are worthy of God’s unfailing love, not because of anything you’ve done, but because He says you are. He created you, redeemed you, and calls you His own. Ephesians 1:4-5 says, “For He chose us in Him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in His sight. In love He predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with His pleasure and will.”

You are not an afterthought to God. You are His beloved child, and a masterpiece in His sight.

Walking in God’s Unfailing Love

As you grow in your understanding of God’s unfailing love, let it transform how you see yourself and others. His love gives us the courage to let go of shame, fear, and self-condemnation. It empowers us to love others freely, knowing that we are deeply loved ourselves.

When doubts creep in—and they will—return to the truth of His Word. Remind yourself of His promises, and rest in the assurance that you are fully known and fully loved by the One who created you.

Beloved, you don’t have to strive for God’s love. You don’t have to earn it or prove yourself worthy of it. You are already loved beyond measure – far more than you can imagine. Let that truth settle in your heart today and every day.

You are loved. Completely, unconditionally, and eternally. Let that love fill the broken places of your heart and bring you peace.

In His Love,
Dr. Michelle
